Professional Coaching Career Planning Tips (3)

When dealing in career planning, it is important to ensure that you gather as much information as you possibly can about yourself. This includes the interests that you have, the values that you hold, the roles that you have had or currently fulfill, the unique skills and abilities that you have, the type of environment in which you are most confident, and similar types of information. By doing so, you can really get to know yourself. You can discover exactly who you are and what type of career that you can benefit from.

The next step in career planning is to do some research. You should research many different things. Some examples of those things that you may want to research include occupations that you find particularly interesting, particular industries that seem appealing, and information that is listed on the labor market. You may also want to visit your local library and check out books and videos on the career interests that you have. In addition to this, you should also research various websites on the internet. Education is an essential component to successful career planning.

Once you have discovered some occupations, industries, and markets that you find appealing during the career planning stage, you can actually narrow down your interests by engaging in certain tasks. Many individuals elect to do "job shadowing" in order to get a "bird's eye view" of how things work in a particular job. Many may elect to do an internship with a particular company to learn more about it. Engaging in volunteer activities is also a great way to learn more about a particular career. This can really influence the decision you make regarding career planning.
